VyprVPN Review

VyprVPN Overview

VyprVPN is a popular VPN gaining traction in the VPN industry. It’s created by a Switzerland-based company called Golden Frog. It’s done a ton of work to build up its reputation as a reliable VPN service provider and as a company. They’re also adding major additions and features fairly often to make their service gets better and better.

Overtime VyprVPN’s performance has been improving drastically, meaning the connection speeds are quicker, the security has become stronger, and the customer support has become more helpful and quick to respond. How is VyprVPN different from the other VPN services and what makes it so special?

Here’s a quick summary of what makes VyprVPN special: it offers high levels of privacy, can bypass popular streaming services such as Netflix (which very little can do), and the price is affordable compared to the VPNs.

With that said here is the detailed review of VyprVPN (both features and performance of the VPN will be below).

VyprVPN Pros & Cons

Pros

Cons

Pros:

VyprVPN no-logs policy

VyprVPN is a zero log VPN service.

They don’t record or keep any information while you connected. They’ve also conducted a full security audit, plus they’ve done a third-party audit on their log-policy to ensure it’s accurate and honest. If you’re curious and want to see the full third-party audit report you can see it here: VyprVPN Letter of Attestation and No Logs Assessment by Leviathan.

Here’s what VyprVPN’s privacy policy says on their website; their position on logs:

  • We do not log a user’s source IP address (typically assigned to the user by their ISP).
  • We do not log the IP address assigned to the user when using VyprVPN.
  • We do not log connection start or stop time.
  • We do not log a user’s traffic or the content of any communications.
  • We are network neutral. We do not discriminate against devices, protocols, or application.
  • We do not throttle or rate limit your Internet connection.

If want to read more about VyprVPN’s privacy policy and logging policy see here: VyrVPN Privacy Policy

I wanted to add that VyprVPN’s privacy policy is relatively short and doesn’t use any technical language which can be hard to understand (some VPN companies try and trick users by saying they have a no-logs VPN when they actually don’t). This makes me respect VyprVPN so much more.

VyprVPN Speed Tests

Now for the speed tests!

Before choosing a VPN you should always check the performance of the VPN and how reliable the connection is. For the VyprVPN view I first tested 3 locations that were close to me, then 3 locations that were much further away.

Here some context before I get into the results. My connection speeds without being connected to a VPN was: 72.59 Mbps Download, 45.34 Upload, and 4 Ping. (picture below). My location when doing these tests was in Ontario.

Note: The protocol used during these tests was the WireGuard Protocol.

Before connecting to the VPN:

VyprVPN speed test United States – New York: 47.84 Mpbs download

VyprVPN Speed Test United States New York

VyprVPN speed test United States – Chicago: 53.19 Mpbs download

VyprVPN - Speed Test - United States - Chicago

The results for the short-distance were actually really good, take into account I was running multiple YouTube videos in the background. The speeds are quite reliable and consistent so I would definitely recommend VyprVPN you are looking for reliability.

Now that I have completed the short-distance portion of the speed test I will move onto the long-distance speed tests.

VyprVPN speed test Germany: 34.49 Mpbs download

VyprVPN - Speed Test - Germany

VyprVPN speed test France: 27.50 Mpbs download

VyprVPN speed test Hong Kong: 17.15 Mpbs download

The speeds were actually quite amazing for the locations to be so far away. Once again I really enjoy the consistency and reliability of the connection I have while connected to VyprVPN.

VyprVPN is great for all areas of the world, it evens works in China – Hong Kong as you can see above!

In summary VyprVPN speeds are quite impressive! I liked the conistancy and reliability of the connection and I liked how I could watch multiple videos and also run a few programs in the background. I would definitely recommened VyprVPN just based of the speeds.

VyprVPN Security Tests

Another crucial thing you need to consider before purchasing a VPN is whether or not is has leaks. If a VPN has leaks (either IP or DNS) it becomes pointless because it can’t do what a VPN is supposed to do (it’s failing to hide your IP).

So, I conducted a few tests to ensure that VyprVPN has no leaks. Here are the following websites I used to ensure that no leaks were present:

  • ipleak.net
  • ipleak.org
  • ipx.ac

Note: the tests were done with VyprVPN’s client running on a Windows 10 computer.

VyprVPN DNS Leak Test

The result above is from ipleak.net (run by AirVPN)

So there weren’t ANY leaks found (no IPv4, IPv6, and DNS leaks)! VyprVPN is a great VPN provider and has good technology to keep you and your data safe.

I also checked whether the kill switch worked or not. I manually interrupted my connection and when my connection dropped the kill switch came into the effect and blocked all my traffic. I tried it both on Windows 10 and on macOS.

VyprVPN's Reliability

VyprVPN did really well in all the tests I’ve done so far! They did exceptionally well in the following categories:

  • A reliable connection that has constant, and fast speeds
  • All servers have a consistent performance
  • No glitches/bugs with the VyprVPN client

That’s great! But how much does it cost?

VyprVPN Pricing

Wonder how much VyprVPN costs?

VyprVPN is a well-priced service compared to many other high-performing VPNs. You can use this VyprVPN coupon to get VyprVPN for only $2.50 a month.

Here is a pricing chart from VyprVPNs website:

VyprVPN is honestly a great solution if your looking to get an affordable VPN service that still offers tons of features and security.

VyprVPN offers multiple different payment methods which include credit cards, Paypal, and even Unionpay. They don’t have an option to pay with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies at the moment.

VyprVPN Refund Policy: We currently offer a 30 Day Money-Back Guarantee for eligible accounts. This means if you are not 100% satisfied with VyprVPN, you may contact our 24/7 Support Team via live chat or email here within your first 30 days of service to request your account be cancelled and receive a full refund as a result of our 30 Day Money-Back Guarantee. (read more on VyprVPNs Refund Policy here)

Signup: The signup process for a VyprVPN account is quite standard for a VPN. But it does require a name to create an account (if you’re concerned about anonymity you can put in a fake name)

VyprVPN Signing Up

Modern-day VPN services usually require a working email address and a form of payment. With most payments (expect cryptocurrencies) your name is used for the signup regardless. If you’re really worried about using your name for anonymity just know that VyprVPN is a verified no-log VPN service, this means you can’t correlate name to activity.

Does VyprVPN have a free trial?

Unfortunately, VyprVPN doesn’t offer free-trials anymore. Before they offer 3-day trials but it has been removed since then.

But, all VyprVPN subscription plans come with a full 30-day money-back guarantee which you could treat as a 30-day free trial. You can cancel at any time within the 30-day time frame.

Torrenting with VyprVPN

Can I use VyprVPN with P2P or torrenting services?

Yes! VyprVPN doesn’t keep logs or any information from your VPN connection history. The service treats all of your traffic equally allowing you to use Peer-to-peer and torrent traffic.

Before VyprVPN looked down upon torrenting and didn’t want users to do it. This has significantly changed. VyprVPN now allows a P2P friendly service and once again they don’t keep any data on you and your connection history.

VyprVPN torrenting allowed

VyprVPN is a great choice if you’re planning to use it for torrenting.

VyprVPN for Mobile (iOS and Android)

If you’re getting a VPN you always want the VPN to be available on your mobile devices.

Luckily VyprVPN offers its services both on Android and Apple products. I wanted to test out how well the VyprVPN performers on my iPhone.

Here you can see the iOS app. The picture of the left shows the settings of the VPN, the middle picture shows the main area (where you activate and deactivate the VPN), and on the right is the list of all servers.

The app showcases a modern and sleek design which is very appealing. This is probably one of my favourite VPN mobile apps because it’s quick and looks amazing. Everything is super-easy to find and understand.

You can easily change which VPN protocol you want to use and multiple other options (seen in the image above on the left).

How Many Simultaneous Connections Can You Have?

VyprVPN offers up to five simultaneous connections per account. Most VPNs have around 5 simultaneous connections but there are some VPNs that offer much more than 5 (some even offer an unlimited number of connections such as Surfshark)

VyprVPN Available Platforms

Another great thing about VyprVPN is that it offers VPN applications for most major operating systems and devices. During my VyprVPN review, I’ve used it on my iPhone (iOS), my Windows 10 computer, and my MacBooks. Every app had a modern sleek look and worked very well.

VyprVPN is supported on the following devices:

  • Windows OS
  • MacOs
  • AndroidOS
  • iOS
  • Linux
  • ChromeOS
  • AmazonOS
  • Blackphone
  • Routers (Tomato Firmware, DDWRT Firmware, OpenWRT, AsusWRT, and Anonabox)
  • QNAP
  • Synology NAS
  • OpenELEC/Kodi on OpenELEC

If you want to see a more detailed version of this list you can visit VyprVPN’s website here.

VyprVPN clearly offers apps for tons of platforms, with the most major apps having access to WireGuard protocol (new VPN protocol, might outperform OpenVPN protocol). Not many VPNs support the new WireGuard protocol.

WireGuard is known to perform better than OpenVPN. WireGuard is a fairly new protocol that is slowly being incorporated into the VPN community. It’s still being tested as of right now, but when it releases it could make OpenVPN and many other protocols obsolete (heh maybe not).

VyprVPN For Streaming (Netflix and More)

If you’re planning to stream content with a VPN you must choose a VPN that can handle your demands. It needs to be able to bypass services such as Netflix. VyprVPN is constantly improving its streaming service bypassing software to make sure users can access content regions all around the world.

VyprVPN offers a feature called Chameleon which prevents Deep Packet Inspections (or DPI for short) and this essentially helps to bypass geo-blocks/restrictions and helps you get around anti-VPN websites and streaming platforms.

I tried VyprVPN with Netflix and it worked very well and had no connectivity issues (see best VPNs for Netflix). I was able to watch shows and movies in HD without buffering or interruptions. The VPN is also able to bypass other popular streaming services such as Amazon Prime, HBO GO, and so many more (see the picture above for all streaming services).

I had a little bit of trouble connecting to locations in Europe (they detected VPN usage). But otherwise, I had no issues!

VyprVPN Chameleon Protocol

The new, proprietary VPN technology is called Chameleon. It’s designed to bypass harsh VPN restrictions on websites, streaming platforms, and much more. The practice of VPN blocking is being more and more common around the world. This limits your freedom and anonymity significantly.

The protocol scrambles OpenVPN packet metadata to ensure it’s not recognizable via deep packet inspection (DPI), while still keeping it fast and lightweight. The Chameleon technology uses the unmodified OpenVPN 256-bit protocol for the underlying data encryption.

The result is that VyprVPN users are able to bypass restrictive networks put in place by governments, corporations and ISPs to achieve an open internet experience without sacrificing the proven security for which OpenVPN has long been known. Experience a truly open and uncensored Internet with Chameleon™, available for Windows, Mac, Android and your router.”

(see full explanation on VyprVPN’s website)

The protocol is especially useful in high censorship countries (such as China, Russia, Turkey, and others), school wifi, and work networks.

I would recommend VyprVPN to anyone who wants to access Chinese content or is in China. The Chameleon Protocol works very well there.

VyprVPN Conclusion

VyprVPN is honestly a great VPN service that I use myself. It offers high-quality applications with fast and reliable speeds that help you keep anonymous online. I love its user-friendly applications and how clean and modern they look. They also offer multiple different ways of reaching them (either through email, or live chat support. They also have a FAQ section).

VyprVPN is a no-log (verified) VPN service that has gone through tough third-party testing to ensure it keeps up to its standards.

Only a handful of VPNs have actually gone through the effort to be third-party verified and it shows how committed they are (the only other VPNs to be tested are ExpressVPN and NordVPN). VyprVPN also supports the new WireGuard protocol which only a small number of VPNs support.

VyprVPN is a great value VPN that has everything you need to stay anonymous and bypass online restrictions. Below is the 80% off VyprVPN discount (with a 30-day money-back guarantee).

VyprVPN FAQ

Who owns VyprVPN's server network?

VyprVPN owns 100% of its server networks meaning its fully self-owned.

The majority of VPNs in the market purchase servers from other companies (data centers) and use their servers for their VPN service. This is quite common in the VPN space.

Like the top-performing VPNs, VyprVPN has bought its own servers and distributed them all around the world. VyprVPN only uses its own server network for its services which makes using their VPN much more secure and less vulnerable to hacks and breaches.

Does VyprVPN Work In China?

VyprVPN is an excellent choice if you want to connect to China.

The chameleon technology used by VyprVPN can easily bypass high-censorship countries. The way it works is by mixing up and scrambling your metadata to ensure that a VPN isn’t detected. The protocol is really good for bypassing school blocks, and more.

They also have servers all around the world including servers in China. The servers are reliably and offer good performance, plus they’re constantly improving.

Does VyprVPN use virtual locations?

VyprVPN uses virtual locations in some instances. They usually use virtual locations in places that are hard to accesses such as developing countries. Sometimes VyprVPN doesn’t actually have a physical server in the location they claim to have it in. For example, a server they say is in Egypt might actually be in Los Angeles.

Virtual locations aren’t bad and don’t have significant security issues. Many popular VPNs still use them such as Surfsharl, ExpressVPN, and more. VyprVPN doesn’t say if they are using virtual servers which can be deceiving.

What is VyprDNS?

VyprDNS is a feature that is fully owned and created by Golden Frog (the company that owns VyprVPN). It’s available on all VyprVPN subscriptions and is used to enforce zero-logging to increase the user’s privacy and to reduce censorship and tracking.

VyprDNS is usually enabled by default in the VyprVPN app settings. If you want to check if it’s activated simply:
