Perfect Privacy Review
Perfect Privacy Overview
Perfect Privacy is known as one of the best VPN services all-around, although it isn’t as known as more popular VPNs such as ExpressVPN or Surfshark it still has tons of great security features, enhances privacy and a hefty price.
Perfect Privacy was created in 2008, this was around when consumer VPN services (or individual) were starting to gain traction and popularity. They mention that Vectura Datamanagement Limited Company as the one who is responsible for processing data and Steffen Wernéry who is a member of Data Protection and Data Security in Germany.
Overtime Perfect Privacy has become a trusted VPN service in the community with many positive reviews and features. They were also the first VPN service to offer self-configurable multi-hop VPN chains while using the OpenVPN protocol.
Perfect Privacy has been coming out with more features to make your connection easier to use, reliable, and secure. In 2016 they released a feature called TrackStop which is a feature that users can use to filter advertisements and trackers. In 2017 Perfect Privacy created a new feature called Neurorouting which dynamically routes traffic through multiple VPN servers.
The VPN is fairly affordable depending on which plan you select, the cheapest plan currently is $8.95 USD per month which is a great price for online security and privacy. We’ll go deeper into pricing later on in the review.

Pros:
Perfect Privacy's no-logging policy
Perfect Privacy doesn’t play around with their user’s private information since their service is log-free and their privacy policy isn’t complex.
This is one of the few VPN providers that actually care about their user’s privacy and understand that it isn’t right to store users’ information. For this reason, they store absolutely no logs and don’t reinforce any restrictions on their service (such as the number of connections and bandwidth). See their privacy policy for yourself here:
As you can see above and in their privacy policy they use simple language that doesn’t require an expert to decipher it. But most “other” VPN services will often use complex language to make their privacy policy more sneaky in order for them to have more wiggle room. This is a common practice for companies to use as many regular people don’t understand what their agreeing to.
Unfortunately, if you look into the privacy policies of other VPN services you will often see they will lie or mislead you about the collection of your privacy information. But you don’t have to worry about that with Perfect Privacy.
There was actually a situation where Perfect Privacy’s no-log policies were verified in a real-life scenario. This happened when their servers were seized in Rotterdam and no customer data was altered or affected since there weren’t any logs and secure servers. If you want to read more about this they explained it here.
Tons of features
Perfect Privacy offers tons of unique features that most other VPNs don’t have. These are premium features that protect you from harmful things online such as advertising, malicious software, data corruption and more.
Multi-Hop VPN
The Multi-Hop VPN feature allows users the option to encrypt their traffic through up to 4 different VPN servers. You can use the multi-hop feature directly on the VPN Manager application (Perfect Privacy’s application) on both Windows and macOS.
Each time your traffic hops from one server to another all of your traffic will be encrypted and assigned a new IP address before reaching the destination.
This feature isn’t too rare among other VPNs but it is unique since most VPN providers will give users the option to “hop” between two VPN servers but Perfect Privacy allows users to “hop” a maximum of 4 servers. There is only one other VPN service that offers 4 hops but it requires a lot more effort to set up compared to Perfect Privacy.
They are the only VPN service as of now to offers users the technology to create and choose different VPN servers from across the world from directly the client.
What's the purpose of a Multi-Hop feature?
In this case, Perfect Privacy is a service that doesn’t log users’ actions and tries hard to provide the user with the highest level of protection. The thing is that VPN servers can be checked on for both incoming and upcoming traffic by third parties.
When your traffic is routed through multiple VPN servers it makes your data protected as it has been encrypted multiple times, this can help with stopping third-parties from access your data.
Turning on the multi-hop feature is actually quite easy, first, go to settings, select the cascading option and then you click enable and choose the number of hops you want your traffic to do.
After doing the steps above you can simply select the number of servers you want. It may take some time to do this as you need to connect to each server. You can also change which servers you want to connect to without turning off the VPN connection.
This is a great feature for those who want a high level of privacy and online anonymity while browsing online.
TrackStop™
The TrackStop feature is Perfect Privacy’s version of an adblocker, it allows you to filter out many things such as advertisements and phishing attempts while connected to the VPN servers. Using TrackStop is recommended since there are tons of malicious activities going on online and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
The most common ad blockers are usually only for browsers, although they block out ads they are still not as efficient or reliable as “real” adblockers. Browser-based adblockers can also be unsafe since you’re trusting it to go through all of your browser data and choose what to block.
Here is what TrackStop looks like in action, the first picture is with TrackStop not enabled, the second picture is with TrackStop enabled:
This is how the page looks like without all those advertisements and TrackStop enabled.
TrackStop also makes it easier to navigate pages since there aren’t tons of advertisements blocking your view.
Stepping away from the annoyances and dangers to ads, online advertisements are known to take up a lot of bandwidth and CPU power from your computer and network. Meaning when you block ads it can make your system perform more efficiently and improve overall user experience.
TrackStop doesn’t only block out advertisements they also filter for other subjects:
- Child Protection Filter: The purpose of this filter is to block out websites that have inappropriate content for children. These websites usually include nudity and even gambling. Plus the child protection filter blocks websites that track, have advertisements and have fraud.
- Tracking & Advertisement filter: This would be the main filter of the TrackStop feature since it blocks out advertisements and keeps you overall safer online. This filter will protect you from over 30,000 tracking & advertisements websites when connected to the VPN.
- Fraud filter: This filter blocks over 45,000 malware domains and protects you from most of the attacks, this filter will also protect you from 20,000 phishing domains as well as making your online experience much safer.
- Fake News filter: This filter blocks out websites that are known to have fake news.
- Facebook filter: As you know Facebook collects and tracks users as much as possible. This filter will block all of Facebook’s domains so you can privacy browse online.
- Google filter: This filter blocks all of Google domains, this includes YouTube, ReCaptcha and other services that Google provides. It can be quite challenging to avoid Google, but this Google Alternatives list may help.
- Social Media filter: This filter protects users from data collection done by other social media platforms. If you don’t use social media sites you may want to activate this filter and block all the large social media sites.
As you can see TrackStop protects users from multiple things without them having to install an adblocker or a browser extension for it to work.
The only thing that TrackStop lacks is a way to whitelist or let some sites not be affected, but the good thing is that you can easily toggle the filters in the member dashboard.
NeuroRouting™
Perfect Privacy’s NeuroRouting feature is essentially an advanced version of the regular multi-hop configuration. It allows you to use the whole VPN server network to route your traffic dynamically and uses artificial intelligence (Google’s TensorFlow) to do so.
It works by using the nearest VPN server to the physical location (your location) and by that the shortest route is created. An example is you are growing on a website that is hosted on a server located in Canada. It doesn’t matter which VPN servicer location is used, the data is then transferred to the VPN server located in Canada.
Perfect Privacy Speed
Before choosing a VPN service you always want to check how fast the VPN works. For the Perfect Privacy review, I first tested out 3 locations that were close to me and 3 locations that were far away.
To give some context, my WiFi speeds without connecting to Perfect Privacy where 180 Mbps download, 115.96 Mbps upload, and 1 ping. The computer that was used to do the test was running Windows 10 and my physical location was in Canada. The speeds were great and were consistent throughout the tests.
Note: I was using the OpenVPN protocol.
Before using a VPN connection:
Short-distance Perfect Privacy speed tests
Perfect Privacy speed test United States – Chicago: 92.98 Mbps download
Perfect Privacy speed test Canada – Montreal: 81.20 Mbps download
Perfect Privacy speed test United States – New York 120.70 Mbps download
The results of the speed test were surprising since they were so consistent and quick.
Now that I’ve tested locations that were close to me, I will test locations that are further away.
Long-distance Surfshark speed tests
Perfect Privacy speed test Netherlands – Amsterdam 88.12 Mbps download
Perfect Privacy speed test Germany – Berlin 109.04 Mbps download
Perfect Privacy speed test United Kingdon – London 98.65 Mbps download
Overall the speeds were really good for being so far away. Another thing I liked was how consistent the speeds were throughout the world.
Perfect Privacy would be a great choice if you’re located in North America or even in Europe because there are many VPN servers and reliable connection speeds.
Multi-Hop Speeds
When using the Multi-Hop feature or even the NeuroRouting feature you should expect a slower speed since your data is being encrypted multiple times. It also depends on where you are physically located and the servers you choose to route your traffic through.
The NeuroRouting and Multi-Hop feature is not exactly great for torrenting since the speeds are slower than if you just connected to a nearby server, the purpose of NeuroRouting and Multi-Hop is to increase security and anonymity while browsing online.
Dallas -> Chicago -> Los Angeles -> New York
Although the speed is pretty slow my connection had a high level of security since it passed through multiple VPN servers. I wouldn’t recommend using Multi-Hop for online things such as downloading (torrenting) or watching content, its better used for other things.
Perfect Privacy no leaks found
It’s important to check if a VPN has any leaks before you purchase one. A VPN with leaks has no purpose because it’s failing to hide your IP.
I wanted to make sure Perfect Privacy had no leaks, so I ran some tests on the following websites to make sure.
- ipleak.net
- perfect-privacy.com/en/tests/
- ipleak.org
- ipx.ac
Note: The test results were done with Perfect Privacy’s VPN Manager app running on Windows 10.
After completing the tests using the VPN Manager (Perfect Privacy’s application) on Windows 10 I can say that there weren’t any leaks found or any other issues with the connection.
Perfect Privacy is a pretty honest and straight forward VPN company. They even have a warrant canary on their website. The purpose of this page is to update their users on anything that the government does that can affect the privacy of their users, this includes national security letters, warrant, gag orders, and more.
Disclosing that type of information is rare for a VPN service to do since it would be illegal in countries such as the USA. This is why legal jurisdiction is important while looking for a VPN.
Perfect Privacy Torrenting
Perfect Privacy is a great VPN service if you’re looking to torrent. It offers helpful features such as secure servers, kill switches, good speeds, leak-proof applications and more. All of their VPN servers support features like multi-hop and NeuroTracking which can be very helpful while torrenting.
On their website, they state that they are “the best VPN for BitTorrent and P2P downloads” since their networks allow anonymous connections with up to 1 Gbps (or 1000 Mbps) and only high-quality (premium) servers are used to ensure that the connection is stable and secure:
Remember that Perfect Privacy is based in Switzerland, meaning it has great privacy laws in place. They also offer a feature called TrackStop which is essentially a feature that filters out ads, tracking systems, and malware and is all done from the VPN server side. This is a great VPN service if you are interested in torrenting.
Good Customer Service
Perfect Privacy offers multiple ways for customers to contact them, this includes email, FAQ sections, and forums. They currently don’t offer a live chat feature that most bigger VPN companies provide.
Even though there isn’t a live chat option there is an email option which is probably the best way to get the quickest response. There is also a forums section on their website where you can ask questions but beware most users on the forums talk German so it can be harder to find an answer.
Another thing that was cool about Perfect Privacy was that they would even go into TeamViewer and help users out 1 on 1 in order to solve their issues.
Perfect Privacy server network
Although Perfect Privacy doesn’t have that many VPN servers compared to other VPN services such as NordVPN it does have premium servers which are much better for security and reliability. They currently offer premium servers in 26 different countries, they also offer users to view the live analytics of server use here.
The servers that Perfect Privacy uses are known as dedicated servers (aka bare metal) meaning they are the only ones using it and not sharing with others. Other VPN services may use cheaper alternatives such as virtual servers which are often shared and logged by the host. VPN services that have a huge range of servers often use virtual servers which are cheaper and less secure than dedicated servers.
Having dedicated servers often means a higher level of security, more speed, and more reliability, even though it may be less than other VPN services in quantity the quality is so much higher. They also offer full IPv6 support on their network which only a few VPN services currently have.
To take it a step further all Perfect Privacy’s VPN services run in a mode called RAM disk mode. This mode is an extra security measure to make sure that customer data is safe at all times even if something happened to the servers.
Servers running on RAM (the alternative would be hard drives) would make it impossible to store data on any server, this ensures the no-log policy is valid.
Switzerland Jurisdiction
Doing some research before choosing a VPN is very important if you’re serious about privacy and anonymity, this means its good to know a little bit about the VPNs origins and where it’s based.
Perfect Privacy has perfect planning when it comes to their service. They’ve done many things right that other VPN services simply haven’t.
Jurisdiction
Most of the top VPN services often have their services based only on certain countries/regions across the world. The reason behind this is because of the data-retention laws in place.
Perfect Privacy is Switzerland-based and has been since 2008. If you didn’t know already Switzerland has an amazing jurisdiction that is privacy-friendly. Privacy is taken very seriously in Switzerland and it is guaranteed. These laws in place help Perfect Privacy continue to offer great and reliable service to its customers.
All in all a Switzerland-based VPN service with a verified no logs policy is a great combination for ensuring the user’s information and privacy is safe.
Available Platforms
Perfect Privacy currently has some custom VPN applications for the following:
- Windows
- Android
- Linux
- macOS
But as you can see it doesn’t have a custom application for each platform (such as iOS). Perfect Privacy does in fact support all devices and platforms but it can be a little tricky to set up. If you need help setting up the VPN you can check out the detailed guides on Perfect Privacy’s website.
Perfect Privacy hasn’t created custom applications for every device quite yet, but you can still use the VPN by using third-party clients with a majority of platforms and devices:
The VPN also works on routers, this way all of your network traffic will be protected and you wouldn’t have to install the client on every device.
Perfect Privacy works on multiple different types of routers and it works great. When the VPN is installed on the router there are tons of advantages such as the server-side features you can use (this means you don’t have to install extra software). You can use features such as NeuroTracking or TrackStop on your whole network connection with a click of a button.
Cons:
More Expensive
Perfect Privacy is a great VPN and offers high levels of security and anonymity but it is more expensive than other VPN services.
Perfect Privacy has been constantly updating and adding new features to its service. It’s much better than the “average VPN” service since it has unique features (TrackStop, NeuroRouting, StealthVPN, and more) a high levels of security.
Different VPNs serve different purposes, there isn’t an “all in one” VPN service that does everything. Some VPN specialize in speed, some in working with Netflix, etc. Perfect Privacy is for those who want the highest level of security and anonymity while browsing online.
Perfect Privacy is very flexible when it comes to actually purchasing the service. They accept PayPal, Bitcoin, Amex, Visa, Mastercard, and UnionPay. You can even pay with cash if you really wanted to.
Netflix Issues
There may be issues when connecting to Netflix, it may work depending on which Netflix region you want to connect to.
Perfect Privacy specializes in privacy and they’re very good at it. They don’t focus on Netflix that much, if you want a VPN for Netflix consider using ExpressVPN or NordVPN they most likely will work.
Perfect Privacy FAQ
I will be answering some common questions around Perfect Privacy.
How many connections can I have with Perfect Privacy
If you buy a Perfect Privacy subscription you are allowed to have an unlimited number of devices connected to the account. This is great if you want to share it with your friends or with your family.
Are there traffic/bandwidth limits
Fortunately, there isn’t any traffic limits with Perfect Privacy. But remember that the VPN services are shared among all of the other users, meaning try not to overflow the server with traffic. And if you are planning on using a significant amount of bandwidth try using splitting the load between VPN servers.
Does Perfect Privacy have a free trial
Yes, they do have a free trial.
Perfect Privacy offers users a seven-day free trial. If you want to test it out and see if it works for you there aren’t any risks and you don’t have to worry.
Does Perfect Privacy work in China
Perfect Privacy has created a special protocol just for this purpose, and its called stealth protocol. Even though China is getting good at blocking VPN traffic there are still ways to get around it.
Conclusion on Perfect Privacy
Perfect Privacy is a great VPN service. It offers tons of unique and reliable features that are actually helpful. Perfect Privacy is always adding creating new updates and more features to make their service even better and more secure. It may be more advanced than other VPNs meaning it can be harder to set-up and navigate but overall I would definitely recommend it.
If you want a VPN to access content such as Netflix I would recommend using a different VPN service but if you’re interested in privacy I would definitely recommend this VPN over any other.
